Is 5 Mbps Upload Good for Kodi Streaming
As above
I have a 7mb download which works great for 720p but non 1080p.
So what practice you demand or have I got something wrong?
I assume y'all mean: I take an internet connectedness with max vii mbps download speed ?
The reply to your question is not straight forrard because all kinds of things can affect streaming.
Some of the most common factors are:
one. Bitrate of the media: Merely because the frame SIZE is 1080p it doesn't mean it's high bitrate, and vice versa. You tin can accept a 720p video encode at a ridiculously high bitrate that you volition have MORE trouble streaming than some 1080p videos.
two. Where y'all are streaming from: This is a big one. The server hosting the media plays a big office in the quality of the streaming and quality will very depending on how busy that server is, take far away the server is from you geographically speaking (further = more hops and more latency).
3. The type of protocol being used for streaming: There are dissimilar means media tin be streamed. Some ways work better than other. Some ways accept ameliorate buffering systems.
Mostly speaking you probably need at least a 10mbps connectedness to stream 1080p reliably in most cases, but that's very much a generalization.

Thanks for the answer
Yeah I do appreciate the variations that effect streaming but thought I must exist shut with my bandwidth
I recall audio must be a large factor as 720p stuff with AC3 is a problem likewise.
That said I can get them all to showtime only they pause a lot to catch up. And then is there a way to increase the buffer? I reckon if I was fifteen mins behind it would work ok!

^of course, your hardware setup can too be a gene. Wireless can exist a problem as well. If 720p is a problem with AC3 and not a problem without, I'd look at my hardware.
Have tried a PC and RPi.
Both the same.
@Whitebelly: He would seem to be streaming from the net ?
A vii mbps connection would be an internet connection, not a LAN connection.
@pacemaker1000: You are correct, the sound does make a difference considering it likewise has an encoded bitrate and Ac-3 typically has a far higher bitrate than AAC Stereo for instance.
When you lot stream a picture there are 2 bitrates that combine to give you the full bitrate of the movie:
1. The encoded bitrate of the video stream.
ii. The encoded bitrate of the audio stream.
Once more I need to stress that the frame SIZE (720p or 1080p) actually has Zilch to do with the bitrate.
Typically less bitrate is required to deliver 720p than every bit expert quality 1080p but that doesn't mean that all 720p streams are made equal.
Far from information technology.
1 720p stream may accept video encoded at 5mbps while some other might exist encoded at 2mbps, simply they are both 720p because both accept a frame size of 1280x720 pixels.
Similarly, the bitrate of the audio can too vary drastically. In the example of audio the number of audio channels comes into play too. A 5.1 surround sound audio track is generally college bitrate than a stereo two channel audio track for example.
Based on the generally accepted norms, 7mbps should be more than plenty to stream whatsoever normal 720p stream, even with v.ane Ac-3 audio, without effect.
That's because 720p video isn't usually encoded at more than around 3.v mbps or and then, if that.
1080p, on the other hand, typically contains video that is encode at effectually 7mbps to 10 mbps (for internet based streaming), and that's excluding the overhead of the sound rail which could add another 0.six mbps to that easily.
In general, if you have a 7 mbps internet connection, you should Non need to buffer and typical 720p stream for more than a few seconds, fifty-fifty if v.one surround Air conditioning-3 audio in my opinion.
^^^
Thank you. have tried a new build on my PC and did manage a 1080p last night albeit with pcm sound

You tin get much data by hitting 'o' on a keyboard, or whatsoever information technology is mapped to on your remote, while playing a video.
Your question is equivalent to "How long is a piece of string?"
